Gas Work on Essex Street to Disrupt Traffic Patterns, City Says

You might want to give yourself some extra time when traveling through Essex Street during the first few months of the year.

SALEM, MA — National Grid is replacing the natural gas main on Essex Street starting next Monday, and city officials expect traffic to be impacted during that stretch.

According to Building Salem, crews will be replacing the natural gas main from 216 to 304 Essex St., as well as replacing the natural gas service piping connecting the main to the customer's gas meters. City officials urge residents to reduce speeds and follow any posted signage.

The work is expected to run from Jan. 9 to March 9. Work hours for the project are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can read more about the project below.
