Mom Says Girl Was Stuck With Hypodermic Needle at Recess

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Salem Police responded to the following calls and made the following arrests on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday, Sept. 18

4:26 p.m. — Loose pit bulls were reported at Gallows Hill Park.

4:37 p.m. — A man told police his laptop, which was in a bag, was stolen from the fountain near the mall.

5:40 p.m. — A man drinking in Barton Square was reported, but police said they weren't able to locate the man.

6:04 p.m. — Kids playing in the trunk of a vehicle were reported on Naples Road.

6:07 p.m. — A Pickering Street woman told police she found lacrosse sticks and a bag in front of her residence.

7:33 p.m. — A man trying to get into houses was reported at Buffum and Randall streets. Police said a man was found coming out of the side of a Buffum Street residence. When asked what he was doing in the area, the man "stated that he was trying to relieve himself." Police said the man didn't have any weapons or warrants, and he was sent on his way.

8:09 p.m. — Police spoke with a person who reported an assault with brass knuckles that occurred near the Common.

9:46 p.m. — A smashed window was reported on Ropes Street.

Wednesday Arrests

Joshua Richard Doucette, 21, of 35 Lynn St. in Peabody, was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a class A substance.

Leslie Thomas Ferreira, 30, who is listed as homeless, was arrested on a charge of knowingly being present where heroin was kept.

Corina Marie Lyttle, 23, of 29 Hancock St., was arrested on a charge of knowingly being present where heroin was kept.

Arthur Massei, 67, of 40R Highland Ave. was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a class A substance.

Arthur S. Weaver, 26, of 28 Walter St. was arrested on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and three counts of violating the city knife ordinance.

Caitlynne A. White, 22, of 14 Newbury St. in Danvers was arrested on a warrant.

Thursday, Sept. 20

1:04 a.m. — A woman being followed was reported on Bridge Street. Police responded to the Bill and Bob's lot and spoke with two women who said they were being followed by a man. One of the women said she confronted the man about following them and "he used profanities toward the two women and then sped from the lot," police said. Police weren't able to locate the man, and the women were escorted to a residence.

5:42 a.m. — Police said a car went into a pole on Bridge Street.

9:07 a.m. — A Highland Avenue resident told police a man arrested the day prior had tried to sell him a gold ring the week prior, and this seemed unusual.

10:06 a.m. — A man reported he was chased by a pit bull on Ober Street.

10:52 a.m. — A woman told police someone went through her purse and stole her cell phone while she was in the Irving at Highland Avenue and Swampscott Road.

12:27 p.m. — Loud banging coming from an apartment was reported on Salem Street. Police said the person was just moving furniture.

3:08 p.m. — A woman told police her daughter was stuck by a needle while at recess at the Bentley School on Sept. 14. Police said the woman was concerned about such a situation occurring at the school. Police are following up, and the hypodermic needle could not be located, police said.

3:27 p.m. — Police said a vehicle backed into a building on Paradise Road and caused minor damage.
