Guilty Plea, Prison Sentence In 2016 Salem Baseball Bat Attack

Michael Castaldo, 27, of Salem, agreed to the plea deal after prosecutors said his victim would testify at trial.

SALEM, MA -- A Salem Superior Court judge sentenced Michael Castaldo, 27, of Salem, to 3 to 4 1/2 years in state prison after Castaldo pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a 2016 attack on a man outside of a low-income housing complex in Salem. Police were called to Rainbow Terrace on Juky 31, 2016, where they found the now 34-year-old victim, who had been stabbed seven times and had his back broken with a baseball bat.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, Castaldo agreed to the plea deal after learning his victim was prepared to testify at trial. Cataldo will get credit for time served and will be eligible for release sometime next year.
