'Ice Cream' Louisiana Kitty Rescue Has Leg Amputated, Up For Adoption

The 3-month-old cat whose leg needed to be amputated because of a clubbed foot drew "a flood" of adoption inquiries earlier this month.

MSPCA-Angell said Patch's story on Ice Cream on March 7 led to a "flood of adoption inquiries" and that he may be going to his new forever home this week.

SALEM, MA — Ice Cream — the 3-month-old kitten with a clubbed foot rescued along with 15 other cats from Louisiana earlier this month — is ready for adoption after having his right leg amputated because of the condition.

MSPCA-Angell and the Northeast Animal Shelter said amputation was likely after the black cat's leg had failed to develop normally and that he will be able to live a relatively normal life as a three-legged cat following the operation.

Now that he is recovering his time to find a forever home is approaching.

MSPCA-Angell said Patch's story on Ice Cream on March 7 led to a "flood of adoption inquiries" and that he may be going to that forever home this week. But if his adoption falls through, the NEAS and MSCPA will re-post his profile in hopes of finding another suitable home.

Ice Cream's hopeful adoption comes the same week that the collaboration between the MSPCA-Angell and Northeast Animal Shelter brought 47 more cats from Texas to Massachusetts for care and adoption.
