Lt. Scott Hebert, Longtime Salem Firefighter, Dies at 47

Lt. Scott Hebert, a 19-year veteran of the Salem Fire Department, died of a heart attack Monday. He was 47.

Lt. Scott Hebert, an active duty member of the Salem Fire Department, died Monday of a heart attack, the department said. He was 47.

Hebert was a 19-year veteran of the department, joining Aug. 14, 1998, and promoted to lieutenant, Jan. 26, 2008. He was assigned to Salem Fire Headquarters and had served many years at Stations 2 and 4.

Before joining the department, Hebert was a Corrections Officer for Essex County.

"Scott was a dedicated member of the Salem Fire Department who was well liked and respected by his peers, he will be missed by this department and all who knew him," the department said in a Facebook post. "Please keep Lt Scott Hebert and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

Hebert was vacationing with his wife, Karyn, in the Dominican Republic when he suffered his heart attack, the department said. He also leaves behind their four children.
