SALEM, MA — Those who have spent the year looking for love in all the wrong places are invited to seek out a forever friend at the Northeast Animal Shelter and MSPCA-Angell shelters across Massachusetts this Valentine's Day season.

The two organizations have combined to spotlight several animals who have spent far too long in the shelters and are in need of a new home to share their love.

The "Will you be their Valentine?" campaign includes Kylo, a 1-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix who has been at the Salem shelter since November. He is a South Carolina rescue who is said to be loving and goofy with people once he gets to know him. He is curious and adventurous and may do well with a canine sibling to share the home. More on Kylo can be learned here.

On the smaller side on the North Shore is 3-year-old Casper the cat. Casper is a domestic shorthair who has been at the Salem shelter for a little more than a month. He was brought to New England from a hoarding situation in Florida where he was living in crowded and unsanitary conditions. Staff said Casper is a "spirit cat" — meaning he is shy with people and may at first be hard to find around the home, but could warm up to his new roommates after a period of time. More information on Casper and his fellow "spirit" cats can be found here.

Other pets spotlighted were Mallory, a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier who has been at the MSCPA-Angell Boston shelter since December after coming to Massachusetts from South Carolina. A bit uncomfortable around other dogs, she may be best suited with a cat or children. More on Mallory is available here.

Indy is a 12-year-old cat in the Cape Cod Adoption Center who has been at the shelter since October when she was surrendered. Laid back and sweet, Indy is on medication, which staff said is easily managed, and likes to sit in the window and watch the birds fly by. More in Indy is here.

For those with a bit more outdoor room — and perhaps some poison ivy or an old Christmas tree to get rid of — Hambone is a 2-year-old goat who has been at Nevins Farm for more than half his life since being rescued from Dighton in January 2021, along with nearly 100 other goats. Hambone and his other horned friends can be found and adopted here.
