Another question I get pretty routinely is "How do I pick the right Realtor"? After fighting the urge to respond with "Just work with me", I give the following advice; work with someone that you a re comfortable with. Most of us already know someone that is a real estate professional, whether they be a family member or a friend. Having a good rapport with your Realtor is important. You will be traveling around with this person, perhaps even in his or her car, so you will want to be comfortable with them.
One important thing I do stress is to make sure that the Realtor that you work with is a full-time Realtor. Many people practice real estate on the side as a second job. Buying or selling a house is a very difficult process, and you will want someone who is able to answer questions or be somewhere in relatively short order. Too many deals get slowed down simply because a Realtor has another job and cannot make it to a home inspection, for example. Most people want to feel like they come first during such an important transaction, and if real estate agent has another full-time job, it is very hard to make that happen.
I have met so many tremendous Realtors, and we are as diverse as any other profession. Some are young and energetic while others have tons of experience. Some where a suit everywhere they go, while other are more casual. The vast majority are very professional and will provide you with the type of service that you need. The trick is to find someone who you trust, who you feel comfortable with, and who can provide you with the type of service that you deserve. Having a professional protecting your interests is a good idea, especially with so much money at stake.
