Moulton Praises Return Of 988 Suicide Hotline LGBTQ Youth Crisis Option (patch.com) — Salem's own Congressman Seth Moulton is highlighting the nationwide return of the 988 lifeline's "Press 3" option, which offers specialized crisis support for LGBTQIA+ youth. He says months of pressure on the Trump Administration helped restore the service, and stresses that young people in communities like Salem can again access affirming, targeted help during mental health emergencies.

Salem State South Campus Breaks Ground for 473 New Rental Homes (patch.com) — Salem residents can expect 473 new rental homes as Salem State University's former South Campus is transformed under a statewide initiative to build housing on surplus land. State leaders, including Gov. Maura Healey and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll, say the project will expand affordable options in Salem while funding upgrades on the university's North Campus and supporting long-term community needs.
   

3. 118K SF Downtown Salem Development Completes Financing (bankerandtradesman.com) — A major mixed-income housing project is now underway on a former municipal parking lot across from Salem Station, bringing 115 apartments, a garage, and new retail space by early 2028. Backed by city, state, and federal financing, the Exchange Salem development and courthouse conversions aim to add affordable units, reshape downtown connections, and revitalize a key part of the city.
   

4. MA Shelters Extend Fee-Free Adoptions After Nor'easter Weekend Washout (patch.com) — If you've been thinking about adopting a dog in Salem, the MSPCA-Angell shelter on Highland Avenue is waiving adoption fees this Friday through Sunday for dogs 40 pounds and over. The extended promotion, offered after last weekend's nor'easter disrupted plans, aims to free up shelter space and help larger dogs find homes. Other participating shelters statewide are also joining the fee-free weekend.
