Man Transported to Boston After Lafayette Street Crash

A bicyclist crashed into a car on Lafayette Street Thursday afternoon, according to police

Police say a Peabody man was transported to Boston after he crashed into a vehicle at Lafayette Street and Lafayette Street Place Thursday afternoon.

The man was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.

Police said an officer was directing heavy traffic on Lafayette Street when he stopped to let a woman turn down Lafayette Place. While the woman was turning, the man road his bicycle past the officer on the right side, and the driver could not see the bicyclist, police said.

The bicyclist crashed into the vehicle, resulting in a shattered windshield and a dent to the passenger side front fender along with scratches, police said.

The bicyclist was treated by Atlantic Ambulance on scene before being transported to Boston.

Another ambulance was called to evaluate the driver, who was "extremely upset," according to officers.
