UPDATED: Farms, Facebook and Mythical Meetings

Welcome to "About Town," your guide to all that you need to know and all the juicy tidbits you may have missed.

Fresh and Fabulous

It's Thursday, and you know what that means. Time to head on over to the Farmers Market in Derby Square. Kudos to Salem Main Streets for all their hard work. The selection from area farms gets greater by the week. Hurry up—the farming is only in full swing until 7 p.m.!

Cool Colomba

Well, it's happened. We've finally met the man—Joey "Salem, Ma" Colomba, that is. I suggested he publish a Where's Waldo? style book during our chat at Coven on Wednesday. Joey's got a lot going on and his Facebook family keeps growing by the day. Word on the street is everyone's favorite Facebooker is trying to make the move back into the city.  Anyone got a spare space?

A Very Merry Marriage

Two of the city's own will be celebrating something special this September. Jennifer Saphier, a stylish city-based event planner, and her beau, Tristan Thinnes-Whitman, will tie the knot on Sunday in Beverly.  We wonder what an event planner's wedding will look like — sounds like a fairy tale to us. A merry marriage to the duo!

The Big (Bridge Street) Dig

Yes, we know. It feels like traffic is the talk of the town every single day. But neglecting the topic of traffic in Salem would be like leaving the lettuce out of a salad — it just doesn't make much sense. We promise, we're done with the analogies. Did anyone else feel like they were in the middle of the Big Dig on Wednesday? Things were particularly perturbing at the intersection of Bridge and Webb streets. Each time we drove in that direction Wednesday, we were weaving in and out of cones, doing figure eights in our station wagon. We almost felt like we were competing in a dog agility competition.

Welcome to America

Nothing gets more American than your right to vote, right?  Well, word is Cornelius Lozada had a double dose of Americana. He was one the few who showed his support at the polls on Tuesday night when he came by Salem City Hall to peek at primary results.  Just a few hours prior, he was sworn in as a U.S citizen. Talk about tremendous timing. Elections and citizenship all in one day — it doesn't get any more American than that. Congratulations Cornelius!

Salem Skunkified?

On a more serious note, has anyone noticed Salem has been slightly skunkier the past few days? The sickening smell seems to linger in the air later in the evenings.  Surrounding communities have noticed the problem too. Hamilton-Wenham Patch Editor Robert (Bobby) Gates got to the bottom of the smelly issue on Tuesday. Call officials if you see any sick or aggressive skunks out and about. Make sure to stay safe and skunk-free.
