Moneygram Scam, "Suspicious" Kids Sitting on Steps: Salem Police Logs

SALEM, MA — The following are excerpts from the Salem police logs. Information below does not indicate a conviction.
Dec. 13
9:33 a.m.: Police went to artist row on a report of a male party asleep on a bench. The man required medical attention.
1:24 p.m.: Police took a report from a man in regards to a scam. The man, who works as a tutor, said that his ad was answered from a "Thomas Adams," who said he wanted him to tutor his daughter. The man informed Adams would cost $900, and he received a check from UPS in the mail for $2,950. He was instructed to use moneygram to send the remaining balance back to "Thomas Adams". The man check with the bank and was told it was a scam. He did not lose any money.

5:41 p.m.: Police respomded to the middle school for a report of kids sitting on the steps outside, and the caller determined this to be suspicious. Upon arrival, nobody was sitting on the steps but kids were in the area from the Boys and Girls club.
