"Additional rounds are possible Friday into the weekend. Small shifts could lead to big changes, forecast updates likely."

The NWS said that areas along and north of the frontal boundary could have up to a 60 percent chance of seeing 3 inches or more of snow on Wednesday, with the highest amounts across northern Massachusetts. Areas on the South Shore, South Coast and Cape will likely see mostly cold rain.

The NWS said the precipitation will start as rain in many places around noon on Wednesday and then transition to snow from north to south. Snow will continue into Wednesday night with up to 4 inches possible in interior Massachusetts and a widespread 1 to 3 inches inside of Route 495.

After a nice day on Thursday with sunny skies and a high of 38 degrees, snow showers move back in for Friday afternoon and lasts into Friday night.

There is a chance of snow all weekend with the NWS calling for a 40 percent chance on Saturday, 40 percent chance on Sunday and a 30 percent chance on Monday.

The storm that will threaten New England Sunday night into Monday appears to be tracking too far south for a direct hit, as of Tuesday morning, with forecasts to come more into focus over the course of the week.
