No Injuries After Reports Of People Trapped In Salem Fire

Firefighters were hampered by excessive contents in a unit in the apartment building early Monday morning.

SALEM, MA -- Fire officials said there were no injuries as a result of a fire in an apartment building in 52-60 Dow Street early Monday morning. The Sale Fire Department responded to the call at 3:41 am. The building had working smoke alarms and sprinkler systems, fire officials said.

The Salem News is reporting that initial reports suggested there were people trapped in the building, and that seven children and three adults were in a fourth floor unit of the 20-unit building. Salem fire officials told the newspaper their efforts were hampered by excessive contents in the unit.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building was evacuated quickly and the fire was out about 30 minutes after the initial call.
