No Injuries In Two-Alarm Salem Fire

An off-duty police officer driving by the Wilson Road house stopped to help a resident to safety.

SALEM, MA -- Several Salem streets were closed Thursday afternoon as fire fighters fought a two-alarm fire at 1 Wilson Road, according to scanner reports and social media posts. The fire, according to social media posts, was discovered by firefighters that were digging out hydrants in the wake of this week's snow storm.

"While Ladder Co. 1 was out shoveling fire hydrants from the last snow storm they noticed heavy black smoke in the distance. As they got closer they saw that the house on 1 Willson Road was on fire," Salem Ma Firefighters Local 172 posted on its Facebook page. "Lt. Tobin requested the W/F working fire for this address. Lt. Desmond from Salem Police was also on scene. With a team effort Lt. Tobin, FF. Dickie Thomas and FF. Tarasuik with Lt. Desmond assisted the occupant and the 4 dogs to safety."

Highland Avenue was among the Salem Streets that were closed, as was Wilson Road, which is the road leading to the Nathaniel Bowditch School in Salem.
