The Perils of Cruising for Companionship on Craigslist

A Salem man got a little more than he bargained for when he went out to meet who he thought was a woman he had met on Craigslist early Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday, a man came into the lobby of the police station to report that two people had smashed the window of his van.

The man had been on Craigslist earlier in the evening engaging in a conversation with someone who he believed to be a woman, according to police.

The man agreed to meet her on Riverway Road, but when he got there and got out his van, he saw two men dressed in all black coming towards him. The man got back into his van and started to leave when he said the men smashed the window of his van with a pipe. He then drove to the police station to report the incident.

The officer on duty advised the man about “the perils of cruising craigslist for companionship.”
