After months of work, Salem residents have succeeded in raising enough money to bring three German Sheperds to the Salem Police.

Officers Ryan Davis, Jon Bedard and Tim Salvo will each work with a dog. Bedard will work with Elliot; Davis with Eman and Salvo with Crusher, according to the Salem Police.

Residents worked together with the goal of raising $30,000 to get the dogs and train them. At its Monday evening meeting, members of the Salem Lions Club, who also worked on the project, reported more than $44,000 had been raised.

Training will occur in October with the Boston Police Department's training program.

Fund-raising events included a golf tournament and a dunk-a-cop event, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"video-salem-police-get-dunked-for-project-k-9"} -->. A  will be held on Sept. 22 at the
