Residents Vent About Salem Mall Conditions At Hearing

The centrally-located mall has long been a target of complaints about the condition of its bathrooms and the property's upkeep.

SALEM, MA -- A hearing about an unauthorized name change for the Witch City Mall from Museum Place Mall in Salem turned into a public berating of the mall's condition and ownership. Brett Marley, chief executive of mall owner Marley Properties, was before the Salem Redevelopment Authority Wednesday, which was trying to determine whether the mall violated Salem zoning laws when it changed its name two years ago.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, residents have long complained about the condition of the mall's bathrooms and broken windows. "Since we're opening the can of worms, I'm going to dig in," resident Gary "Gigi" Gill said at Thursday's hearing. "The first thing is the bathrooms, the most disgusting bathrooms in town."
