Salem Boy Recognized for Heroic Efforts: Report
A 10-year-old Carlton School student jumped into the water in an attempt to save a kayaker in distress this summer.

SALEM, MA — A Salem boy was recognized by city officials at school Tuesday for his heroic attempt to save a kayaker in distress over the summer.
According to a report by the Salem News, 10-year-old Carlton Elementary School student Jaydon Dancy was honored during a school-wide assembly Tuesday morning. The report further indicates that Mayor Kim Driscoll, Senator Joan Lovely and state Rep. Paul Tucker were on hand to recognize Jaydon for his heroic efforts.
Police told the Salem News that Jaydon and another person had recognized that an adult male kayaker was in destress in the water near the Palmer's Cove Yacht Club on Aug. 19, and the two swam out to bring him to shore. Unfortunately, the man did not survive.

Salem Police also gave him a shirt, police badge and hat, and was given a resolution from the Statehouse.
