Salem Business Gets Smart With Bikes

EVantage's newest electronic bike offers the latest technologies in bicycle gearing, battery regeneration and auto terrain sensing controls.

In this age of modern technology, most people own a smartphone or even a smart TV, but a Salem-based company is working to make smart bikes the next big thing.

EVantage, partnered with electric vehicle manufacturer Polaris Industries, started in 2009 and launched its first version of the electric bike in 2011.

These electric bikes can be used for recreation, commuting or for exercise.

The Polaris eBike version 1.0. brought in $4 million in sales in the first two years of business, Boston Business Journal reported.

The second version of the bike made its debut in September. These bikes cost around $2,000 to $9,000 per bike, according to the Business Journal.

EVantage expects its business to keep expanding and to keep bringing in more money from their smart bike developments. The company plans to generate $12 million in revenue and develop a wireless wearable device by the end of next year, according to the Business Journal.
