SALEM, MA — The Haunted Happenings Grand Parade — the annual "official kickoff" to the city's Halloween season — is set for Oct. 5 with the Salem Chamber of Commerce seeking volunteers to make the night a fun and successful one for residents and visitors alike.

Volunteer duties include giving directions, organizing sections of the parade and participants such as school groups, businesses and organizations at Shetland Park, carrying a banner while walking in the parade, helping to maintain a sensory-friendly area on Central Street or helping to keep things moving at a safe pace on the Pedestrian Mall.

Volunteers are advised that the parade is held rain or shine and to dress for potentially changing weather conditions that night.

Volunteers should expect to arrive at Shetland Properties at 27 Congress Street at about 5:15 p.m. that night. Help can be in the form of setting up all the way through the end of the parade, which is normally about 8 p.m. and will be at the Salem Common.
