Salem City Councilor Furey Won't Run For Reelection
Tom Furey plans to announce his plan to hang it up at the Salem City Council meeting Thursday.

SALEM, MA -- Saying he wants to give anyone planning to run for his seat a year to plan, At-Large Salem City Councilor will announce plans to step down after his current term ends at the end of 2019. Furey, who has served on Cicty Council and the Salem School Committee for 34 years, told the Salem News he will announce his plan not to run for another term in the 2019 election at Thursday's City Council meeting.
"Some people keep going and going and going, and it's a selfish situation. Records are meant to be broken, and I didn't want to stay around and break records," Furey told the newspaper. All 11 City Council seats are up for reelection next year.
