Salem, Danvers Holding Joint Rescue Exercises

The May 7th simulation will take place on the Danvers River off McCabe Park in Salem.

From the City of Salem: The Salem Fire Department and Salem Harbormaster will be joining with their counterparts from the Town of Danvers, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and the United States Coast Guard to carry out a training exercise on Tuesday, May 7th.

On that date, residents may notice activity taking place in the Danvers River off of McCabe Park, adjacent to the Kernwood Bridge, particularly in the afternoon. Agencies will be carrying out an exercise simulating an oil spill incident in the river and deploying booms and other response measures as a result. No oil will be spilled as part of this training exercise.

Members of the press may observe the exercise, but may be restricted from portions of McCabe Park and Marina as the exercise is carried out. A schedule for the day’s activities is below.

8:30 a.m. – Mobilization and staging at McCabe Park near boat ramp, Kernwood Avenue, Salem.
9:00 a.m. – Incident overview and oil spill review at Winter Island function room, 50 Winter Island Road, Salem.
10:30 a.m. – MassDEP equipment review and training, Winter Island function room.
12:00 noon – Commence training exercise, McCabe Park and Danvers River.
2:30 p.m. – Demobilize, McCabe Park.
