Salem Heritage Days: Brand New Events This Year
Salem Heritage Days are nearly upon us. Here are the brand new events to look out for this year.

SALEM, MA — Salem's Heritage Days are nearly upon us, and the City is offering a multitude of new events in preparation for the 10-day celebration. Here are the events that are brand new to the celebration this year, courtesy of the City of Salem.
Salem City Hall Open House: 6-7 p.m., Salem City Hall, 93 Washington St., Aug. 4
Stop by City Council chambers at Salem City Hall to meet staff from a variety of City departments, get answers to your questions, and find help with City services, all in one convenient location.
Godspell: 4:00-6:30 p.m., Derby Square, Aug. 6
Still Small Theatre Troupe presents Godspell, a musical based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, written by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelek. Follow a group of unique individuals as they learn how to truly live in community, with the help of an unforgettable Teacher. Free admission. Each performance will be followed by a talk-back with the cast and creative team. In case of rain, performance will be held inside Old Town Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

First Annual Splash & Dash: 9 a.m. Aug. 7, Forest River Park
Join us for the inaugural Salem Splash and Dash during Heritage Days at Forest River Park. Children ages 4 to 10 are welcome to compete in this unique Swim/Run. All the legs of this event will be taking place at Forest River Park. The children will be swimming in the Forest River pool and running around the park. Entry Fee: $30 per child, $40 on race day. All participants receive a t-shirt and finisher medal. All proceeds benefit the Salem YMCA. For more info, visit:

American Travelling Morrice: 2:30 p.m.-3:15 p.m., Salem Common: 4:30-5:15 p.m. Derby Square, Aug. 7
Enjoy a vibrant performance of traditional English Morris dancing by The
American Travelling Morrice! The group is comprised of dancers and
musicians from across North America and abroad. Since 1976, the group
has toured throughout the United States and England.

Salsa on the South River: 6-8:30 p.m. South River – Peabody Street Park, Aug. 7
Come and bring your friends and families, learn to dance Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Kizomba and other styles of dancing. This event is free and open to the public so come and have some fun! (also being held Aug. 14, 21 & 28)
Salem Senior Event: ID Event: 9 a.m. – 12p.m., 5 Broad St., Aug. 9
Charlie Cards: Sponsored by The Salem Council on Aging, Senator Joan Lovely, and Representative Paul Tucker. If you are in need of a Charlie Card for the MBTA, come to the COA (you must bring a photo id)! This event is FREE and open to Salem Seniors 65 and older. Advanced registration required. GO4LIFE: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Salem Common, Sponsored by the Salem Council on Aging and CareOne, Aug. 11
GO4LIFE is an exercise and physical activity campaign from the National Institute on Aging at the National Institute of Health, and is designed to help Seniors fit exercise and physical activity into your daily life. The event will include food, vendors, programs and activities, special events and raffle prizes. Each senior will be given a card upon registration, which will need to be stamped at each vendor/activity location in order to be eligible to enter the raffles. This event is FREE and open to Salem Seniors age 60 and older. Advanced registration required. Jim McAllister: 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Broad St., Aug 12
Come and listen to renowned story teller Jim McAllister, as he presents “Name Dropping – Salem’s Amazing
