Salem Heritage Days Return For 2022

Newly added to Heritage Days this year is the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival scheduled for Salem Common on Aug. 6.

SALEM, MA — Salem Heritage Days are returning for 2022 with some familiar favorites and at least one big addition.

The annual festival will run from Aug. 1 through Aug. 7 this year with a newly added Salem Jazz and Soul Festival planned for Salem Common on Aug. 6 from noon to 8 p.m.

"Heritage Days is always a fun, family-friendly week of special events and activities," Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said. "I want to thank all the organizations and individuals involved in putting together the events that comprise our annual Heritage Days celebration.

The concerts will be back at the Salem Willows Shell with the Salem Community Concert Band and Community Jazz Band under the direction of Cynthia Napierkowski on Aug. 1, the North Shore Concert Band on Aug. 2 and a day of DJs, VJs and live electronic music on Aug. 7.

This year's festival will also include "several events exclusively for older adults," including an ice cream social, a barbeque at Winter Island and a Masquerade Ball, as well as an all-ages ice cream tasting and movie in the Common on Aug. 3 and a family Bingo night at Charlotte Forten Park on Aug. 6.

A public safety day with a K-9 demonstration, Salem Police & Fire vs. Salem Youth basketball and more than 60 tables of community organizations, social service agencies and local businesses is also being organized at a site and date to be determined.
