Salem Man Held In Brutal Stabbing Over Child Rearing Dispute

The 44-year-old victim from Beverly was nearly disembowled in the attack, according to court records.

SALEM, MA -- Prosecutors say a Salem man nearly disembowled a Beverly man in a brutal stabbing that followed a dinner party dispute over child rearing. Adam McCauley, 29, of 5 Varney Street in Salem, turned himself in Wednesday and is being held without bail on charges of attempted murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Police say McCauley was staying at the victim's Beverly apartment on Oct. 15 when a argument broke out during a dinner after a child had been put into a "time out" for misbehaving.

Later, as the 44-year-old victim smoked a cigarette outside and as McCauley started to leave, the two started arguing again. According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, the victim punched McCauley, and the McCauley responded by stabbing the victim with a razor, once in the the throat and five times in the abdomen.
