Salem Man Sentenced in Slaying of Army Veteran

BREAKING: Peter Castillo has been sentenced for the 2012 slaying of a 22-year-old Army veteran in Boston's theater district.

SALEM, MA — A Salem man convicted of the 2012 murder of a 22-year-old Army veteran was sentenced in Suffolk Superior Court Monday.

Peter Castillo, 28, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Stephen Perez Jr., 22, of Revere in Boston's theater district in 2012. He was found guilty of first degree murder under the theory of extreme atrocity and the unlawful possession of a firearm on Wednesday.

Sera Congi of WCVB-TV reports that Castillo's defense attorney indicates that his client will appeal the life sentence.
