Salem Public Schools Taps Lister To Be Saltonstall Principal

SALEM, MA -- Salem Public Schools named interim principal Michael Lister as principal for the Saltonstall K-8 Elementary School. Lister joined the Salem Public Schools in 2002 as a therapeutic support teacher at the Carlton School. He joined the Saltonstall School in 2010 as a special education inclusion teacher for two years while also acting as an assistant to the principal.

"I am thrilled to appoint one of our own as the next leader for the Saltonstall K-8 School," Superintendent Margarita Ruiz said in a news release. "Over the last school year, Mr. Lister has served as the Interim Principal during which time he has demonstrated to me and the school community that he possesses the passion, drive and determination to propel student achievement and provide support and guidance to the teaching community at the Saltonstall School."

The school district is still conducting searches for three other schools. In Massachusetts, searches for administrators can be competitive, and many Massachusetts towns searching for principals for the 2018-19 school year have either filled their positions or are deep into their searches.

While the search for new leaders at Horace Mann and Saltsonstall have been ongoing, the Horace Mann and high school searches come later than usual in the school year.High School Principal David J. Angeramo announced late last month he would step down to become Associate Head of School at St. Mary's in Lynn.
