Salem Residents Get Free Admission to Boston's Museum of Science This Month

The Norman H. Read Trust will also subsidize two free MBTA train rides to and from North Station.

SALEM, MA — If you find yourself without something to do at any point this month, you can check out Boston's Museum of Science free of charge.

As a part of the eighth-annual Salem Days event, Salem residents can explore the Museum's 700-plus exhibits, four planetarium shows and three giant-screen films in the Mugar Omni Theater. The program is funded by the Norman H. Read Trust.

Passes have been mailed to each household in Salem, and will admit up to four individuals. You can obtain additional passes at one of three distribution centers including Salem City Hall, the Salem Public Library and the Salem Parks and Recreation Department.

You can even get there for free on two occasions this month. Salem Superintendent of Schools Margarita Ruiz will lead a train ride on Sept. 10, and Mayor Kimberly Driscoll will lead a ride on Sept. 24. Parking at the Salem MBTA station will be free to residents on those days.

According to the City announcement, exhibit hall passes can be presented at the Museum entrance with a valid Massachusetts driver's license or identification card indicating Salem residence. Charles Hayden Planetarium and Mugar Omni Theater passes must be exchanged for a timed ticket with valid identification. Salem residents must obtain passes in the mail or from a distribution center prior to arriving at the Museum.
