Salem Satanic Temple Bomb Threat Cleared: Police

UPDATE: Salem police had requested residents and visitors avoid the area of Bridge Street near Beacon and Osgood early Tuesday afternoon.

SALEM, MA — The Satanic Temple of Salem — which has been the target of frequent bomb threat "swatting" attempts in recent years as well as one case of arson — was the center of another bomb threat on Tuesday.

Salem police early Tuesday afternoon said they were responding to the reported threat and asked residents and visitors to avoid the area of Bridge Street near Beacon and Osgood.

"Responsible public safety protocols mandate that we take these threats seriously," Salem police said."We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will resolve this as quickly and as safely as possible."

After a search of the area, Salem police said shortly after 1 p.m.: "The area has been cleared and no explosive devices were found. Roadways have been reopened.

"Thank you for your patience and cooperation."
