Salem Shelter Awaits Kentucky Tornado Rescue Dogs' Arrival
The Northeast Animal Shelter said 17 dogs rescued from storm-damaged Kentucky will be arriving in Salem on Wednesday to be adopted.
SALEM, MA —Seventeen dogs are set to arrive in Salem from tornado-ravaged Kentucky on Wednesday just in time for hopeful holiday weekend adoptions.
The Northeast Animal Shelter said on Tuesday that the dogs are due to arrive through their partnership with the MPSCA-Angell Memorial. Last week, the Salem shelter received 78 of the 100 cats brought up from Kentucky after the deadly tornado.
The MSPCA said that as of Monday 43 of the 100 cats brought to Massachusetts shelters overall had been adopted, but many remained available after passing quarantine.

A Northeast spokesperson told Patch last week that each animal is required to wait a 48-hour observation period and undergo a veterinary exam before becoming available for adoption. The spokesperson said the cats were already in shelters prior to the tornados and did not come directly from someone who lost their home in the deadly storm or were lost pets.
