Salem State Tuition, Student Fees To Hold Steady For 2023-24
The school said the tuition freeze is because "students and their families are still struggling in the post-pandemic economy."
SALEM, MA — Salem State University students will see tuition and mandatory fees hold steady for the next academic year in response to what SSU President John Keenen said are students and their families who are still struggling in the post-pandemic economy.
The freeze, the second in recent years with the last occurring in 2021-22 amid the height of the COVID-19 health crisis when some classes were still held virtually, applies to all in-state and out-of-state undergraduate day, continuing education and graduate degree students.
"Freezing tuition and mandatory fees for the upcoming year is one way that we can help our students stay on the path to earning their degrees," Keenen said. "Freezing tuition and mandatory fees for all Viking students for the upcoming year represents an investment in our recently approved strategic plan entitled 'Meeting the Moment,' which is centered on student success."

The fees apply to the university fee, capital improvement fee and Student Government Association fee. Students may still see an increase in differential fees that apply to supplies and costs for those in select majors.
The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to freeze the tuition and mandatory fees and recommended that differential fees remain stable.

"The Board is committed to ensuring higher education remains affordable for all who wish to pursue it at this institution," said Dr. Cherié Butts, Chair of Salem State's Board of Trustees. "The majority of our students work at least one job to help pay for their education, which underscores the need to remove financial barriers.
"Approving this freeze reflects our continued commitment to being student-centric with our decision-making."
Salem State tuition and fees for Massachusetts residents is $11,978.80 for full-time undergraduate day commuter students and $499.20 (per credit) for in-state graduate students.
The total price per credit for evening/continuing education undergraduate courses also remains $451.20 per credit for in-state students.
