SALEM, MA — Superintendent Margarita Ruiz told the Salem School Committee and parents at Monday night's school committee meeting she welcomed an investigation that had been announced earlier in the day by Mayor Kim Driscoll. The school committee, which is expected to discuss the investigation into Salem High School Principal Jennifer DeStefano's resignation and the hiring of Vittoria Pacifico to an 18-month contract to serve as interim principal at its next meeting, also heard comments from angry parents, according to the Salem News.

"One way we could've avoided this crisis is to be transparent with us, the body you report to," School Committee member Manny Cruz said. School Committee member Jim Fleming added that he didn't know how Ruiz would regain his trust, the newspaper said. Despite the criticism, the committee did not take a vote of no confidence in Driscoll and Ruiz, as some parents had requested.
