Salem's October Events: 5 Things to Do This Weekend
October kicks off Saturday in Salem. Here are five events worth checking out this weekend.

SALEM, MA — In just under 10 hours, the greatest (and undoubtedly the most hectic) month of the year begins in Salem. October is nearly here.
All month long, thousands flock to the Witch City to enjoy the rich halloween tradition and celebrations. There are countless things to do in Salem daily, but the number of activities increases ten-fold during October.
According to the city's marketing and tourism website Discover Salem, there are 39 events and attractions just on Saturday, Oct. 1. While your head may spin due to the choices, we've narrowed it down to five events that you should check out. Click on the links for more information.

1. Little Pumpkin Duathlon
Children under 11 are invited to take part in this road race, consisting of two running portions and one biking portion. The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday

2. Purgatorium I Music Festival
This music festival kicks off the live music series for the Salem Halloween Fountain Stage. Costumes are encouraged. The event runs Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
3. Salem Food Truck Festival
This highly-anticipated event takes place over both days this weekend featuring 25 food trucks. The event begins at 11 a.m. both days.
4. 2nd Annual Howl-o-Ween
This event will feature a pet parade, pet photo booth, a costume contest and parade. All pets are welcome, but should be well behaved. This is a free parade, but attendees wishing to participate are asked to register. The event takes place Sunday at 1 p.m.
5. Salem Zombiewalk
This event consists of zombie kickball and a zombie parade on Saturday afternoon.
