State Approves 120 New Psychiatric Beds For Salem Medical Center
Partners HealthCare says it is seeing unprecedented demand for in-patient psychiatric care.

SALEM, MA -- Partners HealthCare received state approval Wednesday to build a facility for 120 additional psychiatric beds at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem. The plans call for 60 adult beds, 30 geriatric beds and 30 pediatric beds. The healthcare provider also received approval for 380 other psychiatric bed at other facilities throughout the state.
Partners had scaled back plans after massive financial losses in 2016. But the company says it is seeing unprecedented demand for inpatient psychiatric care. Partners expects to begin accepting patients in the new facility by next October.
