Summer Scorcher: Salem To Open Cooling Center In Thursday's High Heat

The Levesque Community Center and Peabody Essex Museum will be open free to residents in need as temperatures soar toward 100 degrees.

SALEM, MA — With temperatures expected to threaten a record-breaking 100 degrees on Thursday, Salem is looking to provide residents in need with some relief.

The city will open a cooling center at the Jean Levesque Community Life Center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday free for any resident in need.

The Peabody Essex Museum will also be open to residents in need of a cooldown free of charge during normal operating hours.

The National Weather Service is forecasting the heat index to reach a high of 104 degrees on Thursday and 101 degrees on Friday when the air temperatures, which could hit 100 on Thursday, will be a bit lower but humidity will increase.
