Council to Set Hearing Date for Universal Steel Site

A public hearing is needed to declare the property surplus in preparation for a sale.

At Thursday night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Kim Driscoll is asking the council to set a public hearing date to declare the former Universal Steel property at 297 Bridge Street surplus.

Declaring the property surplus would pave the way for the sale of the property to neighboring Webb Plumbing, which plans on building a new showroom on the land, which is currently a city parking lot.

Some neighbors have stated that the redevelopment of the Universal Steel land will have a major impact on the neighborhood and deserves full participation from the council and the neighborhood.
