'Urgent' Call For Pig, Mini Horse, Donkey, Goose, Farm Bird Adopters: MSPCA
The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said "two entire farms' worth of animals" were surrendered or seized.

SALEM, MA — A mini horse, pig, donkey, geese and many, many roosters and chickens are or will soon be available for those able to adopt them after Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officials said "two entire farms' worth of animals" were surrendered to the organization in recent weeks.
The MSPCA said more than 100 animals were surrendered from a single property in Hampden County, while nearly 100 more farm birds and 49 goats were seized in another investigation in the state.
"All told, we basically took in two entire farms' worth of animals on our single property in a span of days," said MSPCA-Angell Vice President of Animal Protection Mike Keiley. "Caring for them has required all hands on deck."

Keiley said the Hampden surrender came from a woman who was no longer able to care for the animals and that they came into the MSPCA's Nevins Farm location "in really good condition."
"The animals were not neglected or underfed, so we’re hopeful that we're able to find them new loving homes quickly," he said.

The Hampden surrendered includes a pig, mini horse and a donkey, which were being medically assessed and are expected to be put up for adoption in the coming days or weeks.
The investigation seizure includes nearly 100 more farm birds, 49 goats and two ponies.
The animals involved in the law enforcement case are not available for adoption at this time, but dozens of chickens, turkeys, and geese from the Hampden County surrender will all be ready for new homes this week.
"We want to be there for people in the community who need to surrender as well, but it will be incredibly challenging to do so if we aren't able to rehome some of these birds soon," Keiley added.
Those interested in adopting some of the adult birds can go to the Nevins Farm in Methuen Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
Adopters may also submit an inquiry here.
"Every day that these animals are at Nevins costs us roughly $150 for labor, shavings, and food," Keiley explained. "It's really straining our resources."
The MSPCA asks that anyone able to donate to help offset that cost do so here.
