What Flags are Flying in Downtown Salem Today?
The city celebrates the Marine Corps birthday in Riley Plaza today.

As Salem prepares for Veterans Day ceremonies on Wednesday, you might notice some different flags flying across from the Post Office in Riley Square on Tuesday.
Today marks the 240th birthday of the United States Marine Corps, and the city is flying the Marine Corps flag at Riley Plaza.
Even more than usual, this year denotes a number of important anniversaries for the USMC. It is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iowa Jima as well as the 100th anniversary of Parris Island.
