When Does School Start in Salem?
Here's a look at some important dates on the Salem Public Schools calendar, and some other helpful back-to-school tips for parents.

SALEM, MA — Parents, you've almost survived the summer. All Salem students will be back in class on Sept. 9.

Bentley students in grades 1-5 begin school on Aug. 22. Bentley Kindergarten and Carlton's grade 1-5 students will begin school on August 29. Students in grades 1-12 Bates, Bowditch, Collins, Horace Mann, Saltonstall, Witchcraft Heights, Salem High School and Salem Prep High School will begin classes on Sept. 7, and Kindergarten at Bates, Bowditch, Horace Mann, Saltonstall and Witchcraft Heights will begin on Sept. 9.
Collins Middle School baseball and softball tryouts begin at 11 a.m. at Palmers Cove and Mack Park on Aug. 16. The Salem High School Fall Sports Informational meeting takes place on Aug. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a Collins family picnic at 12 p.m. on Sept. 25.
Tell the kids not to complain - many schools across the country start before the end of August, and some even in July, according to CNN. And parents, no complaining from you either - some schools don't welcome back students until well into September.
