Wormhole Gallery Now Open on Washington Street

As a way to bring their art to a greater audience, several local artists have come together and created a pop up gallery for the month of October.

The Wormhole Art Gallery on Washington Street includes the art of Matt Curley, Brad Haddock, Dan Brenton, Ramona Shah, Loki LaChappelle, Jesse Chambers, Sabrina Marchand, Ashlie Brant and more.The gallery will run from Oct. 5-31 at 231 Washington St.

Sponsored by Salem Ink, when the retail space opened up two doors down, LaChappelle was able to find several artists interested in exhibiting their work. LaChappelle owns Salem Ink tattoo shop, next door. The gallery is in the old location of the dollar store. 

"We all pitched in to rent out the space for the month," Curley said. "Many of the artists are current students at SSU, or recent graduates of the art program. Others are more established artists who were contacted to be a part of the show."

"It has been a good opportunity for many young up and coming artists to have a place to exhibit during the busy month of October," Curley said. "We called it the Wormhole because we like the idea of this space just popping up out of nowhere and taking the viewers somewhere else with the artwork inside."

The artists had their opening reception on October 5. Receptions are also planned for Oct. 20 and 27.
