SIBL Hosts First of Two Region Tournaments

The Swansea Independent Baseball League will play host to the 2013 North Region Tournament of the Bronco League-11 program of PONY Baseball this coming weekend at its Nike Site Playing Complex in Swansea.

          The five-team, double-elimination tournament will be staged Thursday through Sunday and will feature a SIBL entry along Somerset, New Bedford, Twin Town Devil Cats of North Greenbush, N.Y., and Capital District Braves of Bethlehem, N.Y. Admission to all games will be open to the public and free of charge.

          Tourney play starts Thursday at 7 p.m. when host Swansea battles Capital District. Action continues Friday with Somerset opposing Twin Town at 2 p.m., and New Bedford confronting the winner of the 2 p.m. game at 7:30 p.m. A losers’ bracket clash will start at 5 p.m.

Contests will be staged Saturday at 10 a.m., 12:30 and 5. One or two games will be played Sunday commencing at 9 a.m.

          The winner of the Region Tournament will advance to the East Zone Tournament to be held July 19 through 21 in Cranbury Township, Penn. The Zone survivor will earn a berth in the Bronco League-11World Series to be staged July 25 through 28 in Chesterfield, Virg.

          Swansea’s roster for this weekend’s tournament will include Nick Gerling, J.P. Nasiff, Lucas Crook, Chris Paquette, Alex Millar, Marcus Moss, Peter Gloddy, Jared Koger, Clayton Harper, Logan Sherrat, Tyler Botelho, Casey Santerre, Manager Dave Nasiff and coaches Dan Gerling and Chris Paquette.

          According to President Andy Fyfe, the SIBL will also host the North Region Tournament of the Mustang League (9- and 10-year-old players) of PONY Baseball on July 18 through 21 at the Nike Site Playing Complex.
