On Thursday May 15th, the Swansea Public Library celebrates Godzilla day to coincide with the release of the newest Godzilla movie on Friday May 16th. We will be showing Destroy All Monsters, by Japanese film company Toho at 6:00PM in the Reference Room. This film features 11 of Toho’s early monsters. A coloring contest will take place during the film and Godzilla prizes will be awarded. All ages are invited to this fun evening of popcorn, soda and monsters. How do the Kaiju escape from Monsterland? Come to the library to find out!
Starting Wednesday May 21st, the Swansea Anime Club will meet from 4-6PM in the Junior Room at the Library. New members are invited to attend as activities will be planned including watching anime, reading manga, creating costumes for cosplay, creating manga art, webcomics, and reading and reviewing manga and anime books and movies. Special events including Ramen Days, Nintendo DS Days, and Karaoka events. The Batman Sidekick Contest is still in full swing at the library. Batman has had awesome sidekicks over the years but the Library wants YOU to draw yourself as Batman’s new sidekick. Winners will get their choice of cool superhero toys. Entries must be received by May 31st. Include name, age and phone number on all entries. Entry forms are available at the library.
The Teen and adult Fan Fiction contest continues until May 31st when winners will be announced by the close of the day. Write a fan fiction Dark Knight story , 1000-2000 words and the winning prize is a $25 gift certificate to Newbury Comics. Not confident in your fiction skills? Write an essay instead on which Batman movie is the best and why.
