Suspect in Route 1 Motel Shooting Held on Bail; Faces Intent to Murder Charge

SHARON, MA — Police have made an arrest in connection to a Dec. 1 shooting at the Econo Lodge on Route 1.
Nicky Gomes Jr., 24 of Brockton, was arrested Sunday night by Brockton police on a Sharon police warrant and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and possession of ammunition without an firearms identification card, according to the Sharon Police Department. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail during his arraignment in Stoughton District Court but had his bail revoked due to other open cases.
Last Thursday, police responded to a report of gunshots at the motel on the Sharon-Walpole line. Upon arrival, Sharon police determined that several rounds were fired outside of the motel. Police confirmed that a gun was recovered in a nearby neighborhood.

According to a police report obtained in Stoughton District Court, police were alerted to the incident after a witness saw a man being chased by two others, including Gomes and hearing gun shots. Surveillance footage from the motel shows Gomes checking into the motel at 1:07 a.m. and entering a room. At 10:46 a.m., witnesses said and surveillance footage showed Gomes chasing a person up to the second level of the motel and back down. Surveillance footage allegedly showed two faint clouds of smoke, the report said.
Gomes allegedly left in a pickup truck and drove away. The man who was being chase then left his hiding space and went to the lobby.

Police wrote in the report that they were able to identify Gomes from surveillance footage and the driver's license that he used to check into the motel.
More charges are possible, police said.
Gomes is due back in court Jan. 4 for a probable cause hearing.
