Bilingual Montessori School of Sharon Donates School Furniture to local Head Start Students

Bilingual Montessori School of Sharon donates $15,000 worth of school furniture to help nearly 700 Head Start students in Massachusetts

In its commitment to early childhood education, The Bilingual Montessori School of Sharon (BMSS), located at 120 Lakeview Street in Sharon, donated $15,000 worth of school tables, desks, cubbies, chairs, activity and changing tables and other school supplies to Self Help Inc. of Brockton’s Head Start Program, located at 370 Howard Street.

The much-needed furniture and supplies will serves as an upgrade to current materials in Self Help’s six Head Start locations: Brockton, Middleboro, Norton, Norwood, Whitman and Stoughton. The donation will help the nearly 700 pre-school aged students enrolled in the program, whose families are below the poverty level, and rely on Head Start for developmental services.

“We could not be more grateful for this tremendous donation by the Bilingual Montessori School of Sharon, and their generous offer to donate furniture for our Head Start classrooms,” said Jonathan Carlson CEO of Self Help Inc. “This could not come at a better time because with shrinking budgets, replacing classroom furniture is often placed lower on the priority list. The fact that we can now retire furniture that should have been discarded years ago will be appreciated by so many, especially those children that we serve,” Carlson said.

BMSS is pleased to help another local organization which shares in its goal of early childhood education. “We could not be more thrilled to see a worthy and important organization like Head Start make great use of the furniture,” said Theodora Koziol, Head of School at the Bilingual Montessori School of Sharon. “It was important for us to partner with an organization which serves the same Massachusetts communities that we do.”

Students from both schools met one another at a formal donation, held November 1 at Head Start’s Brockton location. Self Help Inc. Head Start has ongoing enrollment for children whose parents reside in the Self Help service area and are low-income aged 3 to 5.
