Comcast's Sharon Service Uninterrupted by License Expiring

Comcast's cable television service to Sharon has continued uninterrupted despite the telecommunications giant's Sharon license expiring on April 8, Sharon's Cable TV Oversight Committee chairman says.

"No residents have been inconvenienced," committee Chairman Charles Levine told selectmen Tuesday night.

"Comcast is living up to all of the provisions in their prior license."

Negotiations for a new 10-year license are under way, Levine said. Vacations on both sides of the table have affected the talks, he said.

No new sessions are scheduled, "but there's conversations going on," he said.

Town Administrator Benjamin Puritz said there was "more convergence on the positions (Tuesday) than in the previous nine months."

Levine said two major issues exist: capital request, and the buyout of an institutional network previously used for data connection and public access.

"Comcast would like to get out of that business," Levine said.
