Creating Meaningful Activities for people with dementia at SPL, March 15

Linda Einis, OT/ATP returns to discuss ways to adapt leisure activities for people with dementia at the Sharon Public Library on Tues, 3/15.

(SHARON, MA) – Occupational therapist Linda Einis, OT/ATP, a specialist in creating and directing activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will discuss ways to adapt leisure activities to an individual’s abilities and interests during her third and final workshop in the ongoing Our Partners in Health (OPH) series. Einis’s free, 90-minute program, titled, Creating Meaningful Activities, will explore new ideas for activities that individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss and other forms of dementia can enjoy with their families. The program will be held on Tuesday, March 15, at 7:00 – 8:30 pm, in the Cynthia B. Fox Community Room at the Sharon Public Library. The public is invited.

A veteran occupational therapist with more than 27 years of experience, Einis is a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and has created and directed the Adapted Activities Library and Computer Resource at the Wrentham Developmental Center in Waltham. Experienced in using technology to help people achieve greater independence in their lives, Einis brings firsthand knowledge of problem solving and finding workable solutions for parents with dementia living at home.

Einis’s OPH program will be followed by a presentation by Orchard Cove internist Jennifer Brinckerhoff, MD, on Healthy Aging: A Geriatrician’s Perspective, at the Sharon Council on Aging on Wednesday, March 23, at 12:00 pm. On Thursday, April 7, Life Story Theatre Artistic Director and Lesley College Professor Alan O’Hare facilitates and hosts the movie, Alive Inside, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. All OPH programs are free and open to the public.
