Entertainment and Dinner Come to SHS

Khayli Petigny

Sharon High School students have been rehearsing rigorously since the last curtain of The Wiz to put on two student directed productions of varying narratives, both sure to delight every audience member.
Entertainment: The Play, written and directed by Christian Villanueva and Jacob Selsman, as well as Maia Mongado and Kyle Ginsberg, has presented new challenges for all involved. Mongado divulges that “the rehearsal process has been very different for me because instead of taking advice and following it, I'm now the person giving advice! It's a bit nerve wracking… but the other three directors help out a lot and it really feels like we're part of a team.” Entertainment: The Play takes a satirical look at popular devices used in film media to engage audiences. Tropes such as unrequited love are deployed in a show stuffed full of sarcasm and witty one liners. Jasper Olson, the lead actor, comments, “This is my first high school show, and it differs from my usual roles because I’m usually cast much older, so playing someone my own age is pretty interesting and really fun.” Jasper anxiously awaits the reaction of the audience as he showcases his hard work alongside the rest of the cast and crew. Everyone involved has developed excitement around the piece, with director Maia again saying, “I think we all work together great because we all share the same goal, which is to put on a great play that the actors and crew can feel proud of.” As the show has progressed, the directors anticipate their production will develop into masterpieces.
Giovanna Wiseman and Katie Fallon are the authors and directors of Dinner is Served, which tells the story of two opposing families brought together by a soon to be married couple over Thanksgiving dinner. The show focuses on relationships, as well as raucous humor and physical comedy. The spirit of the theater is much like a family, voices Ilana Feldman, a graduating senior. As she prepares for her final curtain call, she says that “opening night is always stressful and fun at the same time, but this year especially is going to be bittersweet for me. Student directed was the first show I ever participated in and it's what got me hooked into the theatre company, so as a senior leaving all of that is going to be hard.” The spin on a normal family meal is sure to engage the audiences with a series of twists and laughs. Anna-Li St. Martin, the stage manager for both productions explains the difficulty of creating the world of two seperate shows in such a short amount of time, but is reassured by the diligence and miraculous “theater magic” every production experiences.
With opening night quickly approaching, buy your tickets now! on January 11th and 12th in the Sharon High School Auditorium at 7pm.Tickets are ten dollars and will be sold at the door.
