EPOCH Of Sharon Eyes Memory Care Facility

Project requires zoning definition addition at Nov. 14 fall special town meeting.

eyes building a roughly 50-unit memory care facility here.

To enable it, EPOCH seeks a zoning bylaw change at the Nov. 14 fall town meeting.

The change would define assisted living facilities, and allow them in the general residence, single residence, suburban, rural and housing authority districts by special permit from the zoning board of appeals.

National Development Project Manager Sherry Clancy told the finance committee Monday night that her firm and EPOCH are partnering on the project. They're looking at a site adjacent to the nursing home, at 259 Norwood St., she said.

The facility would be "something specifically for people who have memory issues" yet "don't belong in a nursing home," Clancy said. The residents could choose from a selection of services, she said.

"We find that there is a real demand for a project like this," Clancy said.

The residents' average age would be 75, she said.

"A lot of these people do need specific help," Clancy said.

The facility would have about 30 full- and part-time employees, she said.

Clancy is scheduled to meet with selectmen at 7:15 tonight at the Sharon Town Offices.
