Moose Hill Holds Events In December

Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary is holding these events in December:

  • Free Star Parties, 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18: Join local astronomers and view the night sky through their big telescopes. The event is ongoing, so drop in for the entire time, or just some of the evening. Park in the Nature Center lot and bring a flashlight to follow the marked, self-guided path to find the viewing field. This program is cancelled if sky conditions are cloudy; call 781-784-5691 ext. 8103 after 6 p.m. for a recorded message about the status of the program
  • Sunday Saunters, 3 to 4 p.m. Dec. 18: Join Patti Austin for a relaxed, on-the-trail interpretative walk. Walks are cancelled in inclement weather; call prior to attending if the weather is questionable.
  • Beach Party, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14: Join in the fun of an indoor beach party. Bring a beach towel from home for our story time. Sip lemonade before creating a beach scene complete with sand and shells. The fee per session is $8 to $11. The program is open to ages 4 to 6.
  • Welcome Winter, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 21: Hike, explore, play games, and enjoy the arrival of a new season. This program will combine indoor learning time and outdoor exploration. Celebrate with a cup of hot chocolate. The fee per session is $8 to $11. The program is open to ages 4 to 6.
  • Coyote Howl, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 22: Peek into the lives of this elusive mammal through stories, games, and a craft. A short walk will be included to search fr coyote signsThe fee per session is $8 to $11. The program is open to ages 4 to 6.
  • Terrific Trees, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 22:  Check out a variety of habitats for cool trees at Moose Hill. Look for any leaves still clinging to the branches, search for abandoned nests, spy for burls, and more. Complete the program with a craft and story.  The fee per session is $8 to $11. The program is open to ages 4 to 6.
  • Rock On, 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 : Search both inside and outside for rocks. Discover how rocks are made while searching for a perfect rock to take home. Compare a chocolate cookie to rock, then munch on the cookie. Enjoy a story on how everybody needs a rock. The fee per session is $8 to $11. The program is open to ages 4 to 6.
  • Art in the Park, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 22: Use nature as your muse while creating art. Each class will feature a variety of art media for budding artists to try based on the topics listed above. Each class may feature outdoor time, so be sure to dress for the weather. The fee per session is $9 to $12. The program is open to ages six to 11.
  • Kitchen Science, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 8: Use items from a typical kitchen to help in understanding the scientific method. Chemical Reactions will feature experiments that fizz, pop, and ooze. Straws and Strings will feature exciting experiments with the items in the title. Hot and Cold  will feature making home-made ice cream in a baggie and hot topics. Some experiments will be outdoors, so be sure to dress for the weather. The fee per session is $9 to $12. The program is open to ages six to 11.
  • Wednesday Outings, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 14: Hike, explore, observe, play games, and have fun while exploring Moose Hill. Participants will help decide the group’s destination for these monthly investigative walks. Dress for active outdoor exploration. The fee per session is $9 to $12. The program is open to ages six to 11.
  • Moose Hill Walkers, 8 to 9 a.m. Dec. 5, 12 and 19: Join Patti Austin for a weekly morning walk. See the arrival of fall while learning the trails for walks later on your own. Participants must be able to maintain a steady walking pace for the hour. Walks are held rain or shine. The fee is $20 to $30. The fee per walk is $5 to $8.
