A parenting preschoolers workshop is planned for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Sharon Cooperative Nursery and Day School.
The workshop is designed to teach some basic discipline techniques beginning with a developmental awareness as a basis for limit setting. The focus is then on using positive reinforcement and other shaping techniques to guide children toward appropriate social behavior with an explanation of the various types of reinforcement and how to use them. A discussion of using appropriate consequences, how to choose what's the best consequence to teach a child and how to enforce it consistently is included. Finally a question and answer session will give parents an opportunity to bring up specific situations for discussion.
